Victor Ogu: Don’t Just Settle For What’s In Front Of You, Aim For More

There are some of us who have never taken risks in life. The risk to love, the risk to travel far and wide, the risk to pursue a new career path. We keep playing it safe, flowing with the tide of life as it goes. We are scared of the unknown. We don’t want to stretch our limits. We don’t feel like expanding our boundaries.
We try to play it safe by all means. We don’t get hurt and we don’t experience new thrills. Why is this so with some of us?

Why is it that some people prefer to remain simple and small all their lives, not wanting more? Could it be the upbringing, or could it just be sheer laziness, the unwillingness to stretch oneself?
Sincerely, many in this category actually wish for more in their hearts. They crave a better life, more money, more adventures, but they seem to be too lazy to stand up and get a new life.
Some actually confuse this nature as being an introvert, while others merely feel that it is an inborn trait to be unenthusiastic about life and happenings.
Being excited about life and willing to enjoy it to the fullest should be a cherished daily aspiration. You should look forward to waking up every day and thinking out something new to do for fun or for a bigger purpose. Be intentional and deliberate about the spice of your existence.
Don’t be easily pushed aside. You’re too young to have yourself shoved to an inconsequential corner in life.
If you find yourself less gingered and unmotivated about life’s pursuits, you might consider doing the following:
You need to find your own inspiration. There’s really got to be something that excites you, something that makes you want to have more. You should really find that and fight for it. You can’t keep living contentedly in that same one-room apartment for 5 years without seeing a need for a change. Get inspired by visiting other places and seeing other people’s way of living. Then try to make yours better. Your inspiration really matters a lot to your acquisition of new aspirations.
Another thing you need to do is look for new friends, especially friends who are better off than you in the direction to which you need a change. You graduated from college about 5 years ago, and since then you are yet to add a single training or certification to your CV, although you secretly wish to do that in your heart. You should really start getting close to any of those friends who have gone ahead of you. They might cheer you up and suggest a way forward for you. You should really want more from life, dear. Good friends have a way of steering your passion for excellence and a better life. When you see your friends making an effort to get married, you will definitely want to think in that direction too. Don’t be lazy about this. Perhaps, you should join a social group, a religious organization, or any well-meaning group to see what’s up.
Also, you might want to consider changing your environment. When you have resided in a particular environment for too long, you tend to obviously behave the way they do in such an environment. The average Lekki dweller might be thinking of how to make the next million naira profit, while someone in Iyana Ipaja will be thinking of his next day’s survival tactics
This might sound controversial, but then, life is a choice. You have a right to think big and pursue that big dream. You don’t have to resign to the status quo and neither do you have to resign to the reality of your present circumstance. Even fate doesn’t keep down a man of strong will. You can rise above and beyond your level now. They say where there is a will, there is a way. Push harder, fight tougher, kick better.
Try to learn something new, like acquiring a new set of skills. It makes you more functional, fulfilled and happier. Staying idle drowns your creativity and sense of functionality. You can also pick up new books for a new month to read, it stimulates your mental energy and keeps you yearning for more experiences and adventures in life.
Find a purpose for living, especially one that concerns charity and helping others. Get involved in some community service like teaching and training younger ones in skill acquisition.
Be your own inspiration today. Don’t be passive about life. Crave! Be passionate! Be active! Be a better you!
