Serial Entrepreneur Segun Olusola launches New Book ‘What School Doesn’t Teach Us’

‘What School Doesn’t Teach Us’, an inspirational and educative book aimed at providing lessons essential to navigating the maze of life, was launched on Sunday, December 23rd at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos. The launch was attended by individuals from all walks of life, including Oba Albert Adebose Mayungbe Erinsina III, Ajose Adeogun, and Adebola Olubanjo.

Written by Segun Olusola, ‘What School Doesn’t Teach Us’ is a book which aims to help young people to make life-changing decisions outside the four walls of the educational institution. The book focuses on the relevant skill gap which the formal educational system is not able to empower students with.
Giving an address during the launch, Dele Tejuosho, the first keynote speaker, emphasized the changing nature of jobs in the 21st century. “Jobs of the 21stcentury require problem-solving, innovation and creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and entrepreneurial skills, of which many of these are not taught in schools. Children today need to learn more than facts; they need to also learn how to solve problems and innovate.”
“Although formal education is important, it does not tell you what to do. It only prepares you. You need to move outside the school to find yourself, learn how to handle your personal finances and so on,” added Adebola Olubanjo, the second keynote speaker of the event.
Speaking on his motivation for writing the book, Olusola emphasized his growing love and passion for young people and his desire to help them find their path in life. “You do not need formal education to be successful; you need more of mentorship and guidance. Having a formal education is important, but it is more important to have a mentor who can guide you through the decisions you make in life,” Mr Olusola stated in the book chat with the Author session.
The event formally came to a close with the launch of The ToluYetty Foundation – in memory of the Author’s late sister. The foundation aims to adequately empower the younger generation with the right attitude toward educational achievement. The foundation also aims to feed the hungry, give shelter to the homeless, offer secondary and tertiary academic scholarships to students and take kids off the street.
