Nigeria mourns Abducted ICRC Midwife Saifura Ahmed Murdered by Boko Haram

Saifura Ahmed
Nigeria is mourning the death of a midwife with the International Committee of Red Cross who was killed by Boko Haram terrorists days ago.
Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa, a 25 year old midwife who moved to Rann to help vulnerable women in need. Saifura, her colleague at the ICRC Hauwa Mohammed Liman and Alice Loksha, a nurse working in a UNICEF-supported centre, were abducted by Boko Haram in Rann, Kala-Balge Local Government Area of Borno State in March.

She was brutally murdered by the terrorist sect who have also threatened to kill the other health workers as well as Leah SharibuTheCable reports.
Saifura was shot from the back by the terrorists, the paper said a video it obtained showed.
“We contacted the government through writing and also sent audio messages but the government have ignored us. So, here is a message of blood. The other nurse and midwife will be executed in similar manner in one month, including Leah Sharibu,” TheCable quoted a spokesman of the group as saying.
The United Nations, President Muhammadu Buhari, Amnesty International, and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have condemned the killing.
My deepest condolences to the children and entire family of midwife and humanitarian worker, Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa. Condolences also to the International Committee of the Red Cross, and UNICEF.

The killing of Saifura — who worked for the Red Cross, to bring succor to the victims of terrorism — was an act of extreme barbarism; utterly reprehensible and inhuman. The Nigerian Government strongly condemns it.

We will continue to do everything possible to ensure the safe return of all of our people held by Boko Haram. This is a vow we intend to fully keep. I appeal to our international partners and friends to continue to support us, even as we redouble our efforts.

In the last 3 years the efforts of our gallant military and intelligence agencies have resulted in the freeing of thousands of hostages, including some of the Chibok Girls and most of the Dapchi Girls. Let me again assure that no one —including Leah Sharibu —will be left behind.

The killing of aid workers, who choose to go into troubled spots, both in Nigeria and around the world, represents a new low by the insurgents, as humanitarian workers are some of the most courageous and selfless people on the planet.

Such horrific actions must have no place in Nigeria. I join all Nigerians and the international community in condemning this killing in the strongest possible terms. Humanitarian workers who save lives are #NotATarget.

The continued abduction of the late Saifura’s @ICRC colleagues, Hauwa and Alice, by the militants, alongside the captivity of the young Dapchi schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu, must end.

I call on our brave servicemen and women on the frontlines to do all that they can to protect the aid workers on the ground and employ every God-given resource that is available to us to rescue Leah Sharibu and the abducted ICRC humanitarian workers.

Saifura was a midwife who was a deeply committed humanitarian, helping mothers and babies affected by conflict. We are devastated.
Our deepest condolences go to Saifura’s family and friends. We share their grief. We also ask the media to respect their privacy.

Our colleague Hauwa along with Alice, a nurse from a Unicef-supported health centre, are still being held. We appeal to their captors for their safe release.

“Today is a very sad day for us. It’s a very sad day for the family of Saifura.
One of our midwives who worked in Nigeria, Saifura was brutally executed last night. We are in shock.
She was dedicated to her job. A mother of two kids. She leaves behind a husband, a big family.” pic.twitter.com/wngBmrYWjt

The brutal killing of Saifura Ahmed by ISWAP is the saddest thing. An innocent young woman who was in a dangerous place helping the vulnerable had her life cruelly taken by terrorists. May she rest in peace. May her family be comforted. May good prevail over evil in our country.

This is Saifura! Boko Haram shot her in the head days ago. Her only crime was to be a midwife who worked to save vulnerable mothers from death. They asked her to kneel and they shot her in the head. She had 2 children. She was a hero. Today I bear witness to a magnificent life! pic.twitter.com/2SWS0ctnHH
