I’m getting married in a couple of weeks, and my fiancé has insisted I visit his village this holiday to get familiar with his extended family. I love my fiancé and he’s one of the best things that have happened to me, but I don’t want to go on this trip to his village and this is causing strife in our otherwise peaceful relationship. He says if I love him, I’d accept everything about him including the family tradition of going to the village at least once a year.

I was born in Lagos but spent most of my life in England. I have some really bad memories of living in Lagos, the bugs, the spiders and worst of all malaria-causing mosquitoes.
