#BN2018Epilogues: T. T. Remains Hopeful

Remember when we asked you to send in essays discussing how 2018 was for you? Because, you know, writing can be the best therapy. And sharing your joy and pain and all the emotions you’ve felt through the year can only be a good thing.

Our first submission was from T. T. who, despite disappointments in 2018, is only hopeful for all the good 2019 is bringing to her. We hope, too, that 2019 is good and kind to her.
***
2018 broke me in too many ways. The year started well: I had six months to graduation (yay! it’s been a long journey), and a boyfriend with the prospect of marriage. Every in my life was dandy.
I thought my biggest obstacle would be acing my regional exam. How wrong was I? God must have had a good laugh at my expense. I passed my exams, of course. Then things started going downhill.
My parents, for some unreasonable reason, kicked against my relationship and stopped speaking with me when I wouldn’t obey their order to break it off. My work permit was denied and my relationship went south – he was unable to manage the situation well (maybe my parents weren’t so unreasonable after all), and I guess we both got burnt out.
Where am I now? Hoping for the best amid the storm. My faith and strength have been stretched beyond what I thought was possible. I have broken down in tears so many times, fasted and prayed with no respite in sight, but I know I can’t afford to give up now (it’s hard). Despite all, I’m grateful for life, good health, and awesome friends who remain true as they face their own battles as well.
I have lost time and good job opportunities. I trust God to make my latter days better and restore all I think I have lost. May 2019 be good and kind to us all.

You can still send in your essays to features(at)bellanaija(dot)com. Let us know all the twists and turns and successes 2018 came with. Send your mail with the title “2018 Epilogues.”
